The Lord's Prayer

Luke recorded the simplified version of the prayer we so often repeat.


Luke 11:2-4

2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

Note, Jesus didn't tell us to pray for worldly goods. In verse 3 He says for us to ask for our daily bread. We should be satisfied with only those things we truly need, food for the day, shelter and clothing. All else should be considered worth nothing. And we shouldn't worry about tomorrow, be satisfied with our daily needs and continue in prayer, seeking only forgiveness for our sins and trespasses against our neighbors, brothers and sisters in Christ. The most important part of our daily prayers should be to give thanks to God for all He has given us and to guide us in His will.
